We can confirm that we have reluctantly accepted the resignation of first team manager Scott Agnew.
Scott feels the playing squad is capable of achieving their targets this season, and it is testament to his character and professionalism that he wishes to step aside, with the hope of an upturn in results from a new voice in the dressing room.
Having recorded over a century of appearances as a Stranraer player, Scott was appointed as manager in April 2023 and has guided the Blues to league survival across two challenging seasons.
We would like to thank Scott for his efforts and enthusiasm as manager, particularly in light of the difficulties faced on and off the pitch, and wish him all the very best in his future career.
Scott said: “I think this is the right decision for me and the club.
“I do think we have recruited well and this group of players can go on and have a successful season, so whoever does come in, I’ve got absolutely no doubt that the club can progress forward.
“From my point of view, I’ve tried to lift things both on and off the pitch by engaging with all parties and bringing everybody together.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to manage Stranraer, and have a great deal of respect for the club, its supporters and the players.
“So, a big thank you from me to my players, the committee, volunteers, and supporters.
“The most important thing is that the club keeps progressing.”
Our recruitment for a new first team manager will be thorough and begins immediately, with any news to be shared once details are finalised.
Despite their disappointment at the manager’s resignation, Scott Robertson and Paul Woods have assured the committee that they will take care of training and match preparations while due process is conducted.
Club chairman Iain Dougan added: “It has been a pleasure working with Scott, and it came as no surprise that he chose to resign given the high standards that he sets for himself and others.
“Scott’s affection for the club can never be doubted, and he did not want to sully his and others’ view on his long association with the club.
“His feeling is that people come and go but the club, and what is best for it, must always come first.”
