First half strikes from Jack Leitch and Tommy North gave Edinburgh City victory at a breezy LIME Stadium at Stair Park.
Stranraer were looking to build on promising showings against Ayr United and Alloa Athletic.
Manager Chris Aitken made substantial changes from the game against Alloa, with only Max Currie, Lewis Gillie, Evan Dunne and Archie Traynor keeping their place.
The visitors have enjoyed victories in Wigtownshire in the past and almost got off to the perfect start.
Lennon Walker got in on the left and rolled the ball beyond Currie but Finn Ecrepont got back to clear the ball off the line.
Still the danger was not over and Mark McLuckie did well to deflect Innes Lawson’s effort round the post at the expense of a corner.
Stranraer’s first chance of the game came from a set piece of their own and again Ecrepont was involved.
His delivery into the box was met by Dean Cleland but the striker could not keep his header down.
The frontman had an even better opportunity as the game approached the half hour mark.
James Dolan’s ball through the heart of the visiting defence saw Cleland one-on-one with Shea Dowie but it was the goalkeeper who emerged victorious as he made the block.
And just a few minutes later Stranraer were made to pay.
A fine team move from Edinburgh City down the left eventually saw the ball worked into the box.
Lawson teed up Jack Leitch and he swept the ball beyond the reach of the Stranraer goalkeeper.
Things would go from bad to worse for Stranraer when they found themselves two goals down six minutes later.
Currie was on hand to make the block to deny Walker but there was nothing he could do as North rolled home the rebound, despite the efforts of two home defenders on the line.
Aitken made a trio of changes at the break with Zach Bruce, Aaron Quigg and Aaron Healy introduced in a bid to turn the game round.
Neither team really managed to get going in the second half.
Another substitute, Lewis Dobbie, looped a header onto the roof of the net before he turned creator in the closing stages.
He cut the ball back to Dolan but the midfielder lifted his effort well off target.
In the end, the Citizens were deserving winners and Stranraer will look to get the game out of their system when they head to The Falkirk Stadium on Saturday.
