Stranraer’s journey in the SPFL Trust Trophy started and ended at Galabank, despite going ahead.
Their opponents from League One were Annan Athletic, who were bright throughout and merited their victory.
Having spurned further chances early in the game, a goal just before the break – and two after – were enough to seal the Galabankies’ progress into the third round.
The Blues took a surprise lead against the run of play, Kyle Fleming brought down and Olly McDonald converting on the rebound after Greg Fleming’s initial penalty save.
But their advantage would last just six minutes as with Stranraer winger Josh Walker temporarily off the pitch receiving treatment for a head wound, Max Kilsby converted for the home side.
And there would be better to come for Annan in the second half, Dominic Docherty producing the game’s best moment with a sublime looping, curling strike from the edge of the box.
Aidan Smith wrapped up victory for the newly-promoted outfit and Stranraer’s focus will return to league business.
