Lacklustre Stranraer lost out at Edinburgh City as the capital club continue to fight relegation.

The game was only 10 minutes old when the home side broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion.

The ball looped up kindly for Innes Lawson and he sent a first time effort from 25 yards beyond a helpless Max Currie.

Stranraer should have found a leveller though midway through the half.

Edinburgh City’s defence could only half clear Dom Plank’s cross from the left.

It came back to Beejay Coll and his first time cross caught out the defence and fell kindly for Aaron Quigg.

He looked destined to score but Mark Weir got across his line to make a superb block.

Two minutes before half time and the visitors doubled their advantage.

A Jason Jarvis free-kick was swung into the back post and it was Dylan Williams who rose unmarked.

He headed back across the goal and into the bottom corner of the net.

That looked like it could have been game over but Stranraer managed to grab a lifeline just before the interval.

Lewis Reid had an effort blocked from James Dolan’s corner but it would be his defensive colleague finding the net.

Coll’s delivery into the box was met by Deryn Lang and the ball fell kindly to Joseph McGrath to sweep home.

Stranraer started the second half in promising fashion as they sought an equaliser.

Lang found the chest of Weir early on before he then put a header onto the roof of the net after a cross from substitute Daniel McManus.

The replacement then volleyed an effort over the bar after a cross from fellow sub Finn Ecrepont as Stranraer pushed for a leveller.

However, the home side would restore their two-goal advantage with just over 20 minutes left to play.

Divine Iserhienrhien outpaced Coll out wide and then kept his cool to slot a low shot across Currie.

With five minutes left, the hosts added their fourth goal of the afternoon when Reid was penalised for handball for the second week in a row.

Jarvis stepped up and sent Currie the wrong way to ensure the points were staying in the capital.

A miserable afternoon for Stranraer was wrapped up just two minutes from time.

Jordan Stuart had only been on the park for 14 minutes when he was shown a straight red for a high challenge on Lawson.
