Summer signing Tom Brindley is hopeful his team can turn performances into even more points after Stranraer made it four games unbeaten.

The Blues have picked up results against The Spartans, Edinburgh City, Stirling Albion and Clyde in recent weeks.

However, the only victory among that quartet of games came in the trip to Ainslie Park.

Brindley was hopeful the promising run would continue when they head north on Saturday to take on Peterhead.

He said: “I feel like we have deserved a couple more points at least.

“Last week, against Stirling, how we did not win the game, I don’t know.

“We push on, unbeaten in four now, we will kick on from this and, hopefully, more points to come.”

Brindley, who joined the club from Forfar Athletic, felt Stranraer were not far away from being where they wanted to be.

Opposition defences are being increasingly worked and Stranraer have found the net in four of their last five games.

The 23-year-old said: “I think we are creating chances but it just about putting them away; getting that bit of luck.

“Getting the ball over the line – that’s it.

“Peterhead is a tough place to go but I am sure we will be ready to go when the time comes.”

The Blues drew 1-1 at home to Clyde last weekend

Stranraer’s latest positive result on that unbeaten run came last weekend when they picked up a point at home to Clyde.

The visitors had opened the scoring in the first half when Jordan Allan lobbed Jacob Pazikas.

However, the Blues were improved after the break and deservedly levelled when Mark Russell scored from the penalty spot.

The hosts then had chances to win the game but could not capitalise on the man advantage.

Brindley said: “I feel like we could have snatched it in the end, to be honest.

“We had the majority of the chances for the full second half, where we dominated.

“We need to start the game better and we can hopefully get three points.

“We had them camped in after they had the man sent off but, unfortunately, just could not get the ball over the line.”

Last meeting

Stranraer handed a debut to Robbie Mutch but it was Peterhead goalkeeper Stuart McKenzie who was called into action in the first half.

Finn Ecrepont had already fired over before Matty Grant’s shot from outside the box was held by the keeper.

Max Guthrie then hit the base of the post, although the offside flag had already gone up, and he saw another effort saved by McKenzie.

Peterhead enjoyed more chances after the break with Max Barry testing the debutant number one but both Sean McIntosh and Deryn Lang came close at the other end.

Five facts

Blues number one Robbie Mutch has returned to parent club Ayr United

1. In the first half of last season, Stranraer named 27 players in their matchday squads. Three of those players – Carter McKane, Liam Clive and Scott Agnew – were unused substitutes. Over the first half of this season, the Blues have named 26 players in their matchday squads. Substitute goalkeeper John Gibson is the only member not to have played a single minute.

2. Stranraer scored 28 goals in the first half of last season and Mark Russell’s penalty last weekend means the Blues have scored 27 over the opening half of this campaign.

3. Those goals have translated into what would equal 25 points (cup and league points) – the same number as 12 months ago.

4. Robbie Foster’s booking against Clyde means Stranraer have received 48 yellow cards and one red card in the first half of the 2024/25 season. The 2023/24 season saw 40 yellow cards and two red cards in the first half of the campaign.

5. Finally, two clean sheets for Robbie Mutch (against Edinburgh City and Peterhead) means Stranraer have kept one fewer clean sheet this term than last. Martin McDonald kept clean sheets against Elgin City and Clyde before Lewis Budinauckas did the same against Civil Service Strollers.
