GREG FLEMING produced a double penalty save as Peterhead prolonged Stranraer's winless away run.

The goalkeeper denied James Hilton from the spot, and again on the rebound, with Ryan Conroy's brace either side of half time and Scott Brown's late goal earning all three points for the hosts.

Stevie Farrell made three changes from the side which suffered defeat to Falkirk a week earlier, bringing Leon Murphy and Ian Smith back into the starting lineup with Jordan Allan injured.

Cameron Elliott would only have to wait until the 21st minute for his introduction, but it came at the expense of Jamie Hamill as the captain limped off with an injury.

The home side went in front just after the half hour mark, veteran midfielder Conroy racing into the Stranraer box and firing a low drive home.

With the Blues unable to find an answer, Conroy added his second just over five minutes after the restart, tapping home from an Aidan Smith cross as the Stranraer defence appealed in vain for a handball in the build up.

Adam Cummins would come close to pulling a goal back, the big centre half nodding just wide from Hilton's cross.

A further opportunity came Stranraer's way not long after the hour mark as the linesman spotted Aidan Smith's shove on Blues winger Andy Stirling, with referee Scott Lambie duly awarding a penalty.

Home keeper Fleming has a history of saving penalties against Stranraer for Ayr United, and continued this form with a double save from Hilton to dash the Blues' hopes of a comeback.

Hilton and Robertson saw efforts blocked in the closing stages, but the visitors were unable to find a way through the home defence.

Instead, Peterhead midfielder Scott Brown put the game out of sight, capitalising on a Hilton mistake to make it 3-0.

With Stranraer now five points behind ninth-placed Forfar Athletic, a big home clash with East Fife awaits next weekend.
