GOALS from Cameron Elliott, Jordan Allan, Connor McManus, James Hilton – and a brace of penalties from Mark Stewart – ensured Stranraer got their home campaign off to the perfect start.

New Lowland League side Berwick Rangers had no response to the Blues, who bounced back from the narrow defeat suffered against Falkirk on Tuesday night.

Stevie Farrell made three changes from the trip to The Falkirk Stadium with Dale Burgess, James Hilton and Cameron Elliott coming into the team and Max Currie, Jamie Hamill and Carlo Pignatiello on the bench.

Adam Cummins had already come close for the hosts with a long-range effort before Elliott opened the scoring.

The 20-year-old owes a great deal to home debutant Allan, who put in a teasing delivery from the left.

Elliott got across his marker and he planted a diving header beyond the helpless Sean Brennan.

It was a goal which settled the hosts down and they turned it up a notch in the final ten minutes of the first half.

Hilton was patient in his build up play on the right before he picked out the unmarked Allan.

The full back met the ball on the volley and drilled a fierce first-time volley beyond the goalkeeper.

Within three minutes the Blues had added number three and, like the previous two strikes, it was one right out of the top drawer.

Hilton was involved again as he rolled his defender before teeing up McManus, who curled a lovely lofted effort into the top corner from outside the box.

The final goal came just before the half time whistle and saw Stewart get on the scoresheet.

A ball over the top caught out the Berwick defence and saw Hilton burst through on goal.

The midfielder cut inside but mishit his shot with just Brennan to beat.

The loose ball fell to Elliott but before he could force the ball over the line he was brought down.

Stewart then stepped up and squeezed the ball beyond Brennan to make it 4-0 at the break.

Hilton and substitute David Dangana, on for goalscorer Elliott, came close to adding to the tally before Stranraer made it a five-star display.

Again, it was a goal worth the admission fee, with Hilton adding his name to the list of goalscorers.

The former Ayr United youngster took a free-kick wide on the left and caught out Brennan by curling it directly in at the near post, with the goalkeeper only able to get a hand to it but unable to keep it out.

Finally, Stranraer wrapped up the scoring with Stewart again on target from 12 yards.

Dangana was brought down in the box and the experienced striker coolly slotted home.

Berwick substitute Kieran Jack forced Burgess into a save late on while Stewart nearly completed his hat trick five minutes from time.

It is early days but Stranraer fans can only be happy with their first 6-0 win at Stair Park since December 2011 when they defeated East Stirlingshire.
