MARK STEWART added his name to the scoresheet for the first time since his return to the club as Stranraer drew with BSC Glasgow in Renfrew.

Grant Gallagher, Cameron Elliott, David Smith and Dale Burgess were absent from the Blues squad which featured several trialists on the bench.

With chances proving hard to come by in the opening stages, Ian Smith came closest for Stranraer when he hooked a shot over the bar.

But on 24 minutes, the deadlock was broken.

Veteran striker Stewart was felled in the box, and dusted himself down to smash home the resulting penalty kick.

BSC Glasgow were no pushovers, however, and had two good close efforts before rattling the crossbar with a free kick.

With a trio of changes at the break for the Blues, the Lowland League contenders struck first after the restart, converting a penalty of their own.

Ryan Thomson had a header saved before BSC took the lead, their number 9 producing a fine finish to nutmeg Stranraer keeper Max Currie.

However, the Blues would hit right back as that man Stewart met a ball over the top to beat the keeper.

Thomson had another effort denied by the near post, with Currie called to make a good save at the other end.

Further substitutions followed, including one trialist who did well to win the ball in the opposition half, but could only lift his shot just over.

Carlo Pignatiello would have the last attempt to win the game for Stranraer as he met a superb delivery from Blues debutant Leon Murphy, but the on-loan Livingston midfielder saw his header denied by a great save.

With the referee calling time on the game not long after the 80-minute mark, Stevie Farrell's squad will have a chance to rest and recover ahead of the home friendly against Northern Irish Premiership side Coleraine on Saturday.
