STRANRAER's winless run continued, despite an improved performance from the Blues at a difficult venue.

Stevie Farrell made one change from the team which suffered a 3-2 defeat to Albion Rovers just 3 days earlier, with Morgyn Neill returning from suspension to bolster the defence.

An early penalty at Excelsior Stadium gave the Blues hope, with Stephen Okoh brought down just inside the area with 4 minutes on the clock.

Kyle Turner, who scored a double on Saturday, made no mistake from 12 yards, slotting into the bottom right corner.

However almost as soon as the visitors were in front, the home side levelled the scoring.

Jamie Hamill dallied under pressure down the right hand side and was dispossessed.

A clumsy challenge as the ball was played into the area gave referee John McKendrick an easy decision to make, and he pointed to the spot.

Ryan Conroy's conversion was as accurate as Turner's, nestling into the bottom left corner.

With the scores level, Stranraer looked the more likely to take the lead once more.

Grant Anderson saw two goalbound efforts denied - first by a block on the edge of the box, then by a good save from goalkeeper Willie Muir.

Ryan Thomson has been on target in both of the Blues' wins at Airdrie in recent years, but this visit would be memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Moments after seeing his header from a Turner free kick saved, the midfielder would be forced to limp off the field with an injury, replaced by Scott Agnew.

Max Currie would be called into action to make a few saves towards the end of the half, but the scores remained level.

Stranraer started the second half brightly with a number of promising counter attacking moves.

Okoh was proving a nuisance for the Airdrie defence, and the Englishman showed some slick skill to race through on goal but dragged his eventual shot wide.

The striker then won a flick on from a powerful Currie kickout, which was swept up by Turner.

The midfielder burst into the box, only to see his shot saved by Muir.

Despite the Blues looking dangerous, it would be Airdrie who clinched the winning goal.

Daryl Duffy was on the end of a long ball, and controlled it well to rifle past Currie into the bottom right corner.

With time ticking on, Farrell threw the proverbial kitchen sink at Airdrie in the form of makeshift target man Morgyn Neill, but the hosts were resolute in defence.

Stranraer would have their chances to level the scoring, with Turner, Anderson and Okoh all threatening but unable to test the keeper.

But it would ultimately come to nothing, as Airdrie kept up their impressive home record with another victory.

Stevie Farrell's men will now look to return to winning ways on Saturday at home to bottom side Queen's Park.
