Stranraer 3-0 Stenhousemuir

Stenny 1 April 2017 013Scorers: Agnew (37), Thomson (57) and Kassarate (87)

DOMINANT Stranraer edged further clear of the drop after denting ten-man Stenhousemuir's survival hopes with a convincing win.

It was eighth versus tenth with both sides looking to pick up three points and boost their chances of avoiding relegation.

Stevie Farrell was forced into just one change from the side that had come within seconds of picking up three points at Peterhead seven days earlier.

Scott Robertson was forced to sit it out through suspension, with Craig Pettigrew coming back into the team.

Stenhousemuir kicked things off with Scott Agnew charging down an attempted long ball up the park in the opening few seconds.

It was a very early moment which set the tone for home dominance throughout much of the match.

The Blues came within inches of opening the deadlock just after the quarter hour mark.

Ryan Thomson's diving header looked destined for the net but Graham Bowman somehow diverted it over with an outstretched leg.

Bowman then denied David Wilson before the Blues opened the scoring eight minutes before the break.

Jamie McCormack and Fraser Kerr failed to get the ball clear and Scott Agnew seized on the loose ball before wrong footing Bowman with a low shot.

The hosts doubled their advantage just before the hour mark with some poor defending again.

Willie Gibson's free-kick was not dealt with and Thomson was on hand to thump the ball high into the net from close range.

Stenhousemuir's chances of a comeback suffered a further blow when McCormack was sent off just five minutes later.

The Warriors enjoyed more possession but failed to truly test Cameron Belford as the clock wound down.

There was time for more goal though and that came from another set piece.

Agnew's corner was not cleared and substitute Amadou Kassarate scored his first senior goal with a spectacular overhead kick.
