Ryan Thomson Interview

rthomson1617SATURDAY saw Stranraer succumb to their first defeat under Stevie Farrell.

That first loss was always going to come but it is all about how Farrell's men react to the setback that will determine how the remaining seven games turn out.

One of those who could play a key role over the next few weeks is Ryan Thomson, who has started each game since the change of boss.

He said: "Although it was a defeat on Saturday, the boys' confidence will be flying.

"Even training has been a high standard and the boys are buzzing about now.

"Hopefully, last Saturday was just a minor blip and if we can win on Saturday and go undefeated to the end of the season, who knows where we can end up?"

The long trip north to Peterhead will be a crucial game in determining where both teams end up come the end of the campaign.

Jim McInally's men sit eighth, one point adrift of Stranraer, with both sides hoping to edge away from Stenhousemuir and Albion Rovers, who play each other on Saturday.

Spoils have been shared in the three meetings between the Blues and the Blue Toon this season.

Mark McGuigan's strike in August gave Stranraer a win at Stair Park before Rory McAllister and Scott Brown won the tie at Balmoor.

A 3-3 draw last month at Stair Park means this weekend's tie is likely to be another tight affair.

The midfielder said: "I think Saturday is a massive game.

"It is not a must win game but if we can go up there and win the match it lays a big marker down.

"We want to bounce back from the first defeat under the new manager and I feel confident we can win and I am sure the boys do as well."

Brechin 25 Feb 2017 002Farrell's return to the club has seen the Blues come off the bottom of the table with plenty of positive signs, although they are far from out of a relegation battle.

Twenty-five-year-old Thomson, who has found the net twice since the change of manager at the end of January, described the season so far as "disappointing".

He said: "It is one of those things where it never clicked or fell into place early in the season.

"Confidence is a big thing and, once you start to get on a bad run, it is hard to change it.

"Some of the boys, myself included, didn't play to the standards we can."
