36 Airdrieonians WBOSS Stevie Farrell has prioritised points over performances as he attempts to steer Stranraer clear of relegation.

The manager's return to the club has seen the Blues pick up 11 points out of a possible 15 but they still sit in the relegation play-off spot behind Albion Rovers and Peterhead.

Fans, players and the management team know there is still work to do if they are to be playing League One football next season but the signs are encouraging.

Farrell said: "It was a good result last weekend against Brechin.
"At this stage of the season, results are more important than performances but the boys are playing with confidence and that brings good performances.

"We got another one on Saturday, with three points, which was a plus."

The match also saw a recall for Morgyn Neill at the heart of the defence alongside David Barron.

The on-loan Livingston defender was unavailable to play against his parent club at the Tony Macaroni Arena last month and had to be content with a place on the bench against Peterhead the following week.

However, with Craig Pettigrew struggling with injury, Neill came back into the team.

The manager said: "Craig was disappointed not to play but I just felt he has not been fully fit the last couple of weeks.

"Morgyn came in and thankfully it proved to be the right decision."

Stranraer now turn their attention to Airdrie, who sit third in the table but the Diamonds are actually closer to Stranraer in ninth than Alloa, who sit second.

The Blues will once again have a full squad to choose from as they attempt to pick up a rare victory at New Broomfield.

Farrell added: "They are all massive games just now.

"Every game is a difficult game considering where we are."

The hosts had not won a game in a month coming into the tie and came into the match without club captain Steven Bell, who was missing through suspension. Ryan Thomson started at right back with Frank McKeown at the heart of the defence alongside Scott Robertson.

Airdrie broke the deadlock after just ten minutes when Adam Brown collected a throw in on the left and drifted across the box before firing beyond Cameron Belford. The Blues showed some battling spirit though with an equaliser just 12 minutes later. Scott Agnew raced onto Joe Nuttall's through ball and slotted beyond Rohan Ferguson.

It looked as though that was how the game would finish but Andy Ryan, who also grabbed the winner at New Broomfield in August, bundled the ball past Belford with just 12 minutes to go.
