TWO GOALS in the final 13 minutes denied Stranraer an impressive win at home to league leaders Livingston.

The Blues came into the game on the back of wins over Stenhousemuir and East Kilbride in their last two home games.

Meanwhile, Livingston were enjoying impressive form on the road with six wins in a row.

Stranraer boss Brian Reid made three changes from the side who progressed in the Scottish Cup, with Giuliano Morena, Craig Thomson and Scott Agnew recalled to the starting line-up.

That meant Craig Malcolm, Ryan Thomson and Mark McGuigan all had to be content with a place on the bench alongside Frank McKeown, Luke Watt, Max Currie and youngster Jack Sherrie.

On paper it had the makings of a tough game but the home side made the perfect start with just five minutes on the clock.

Willie Gibson curled an unstoppable free-kick from the left edge of the box beyond the helpless Liam Kelly to put the Blues in front.

There was little in the way of goalmouth action for the rest of the opening 45 minutes but the Blues twice came close to doubling their tally after the break.

First, Agnew, who looked more like the player fans had enjoyed in his first spell at the club, lobbed Kelly, only to see the ball crash back off the crossbar.

Then, on the stretch, goalkeeper Kelly denied the midfielder when he got down smartly to stop a low shot.

Cameron Belford had been pretty much a spectator for much of the game but the tide began to turn with about 20 minutes left.

Substitute Dale Carrick had already hit the crossbar with a lob similar to Agnew's before he got on the end of fellow sub Josh Mullin's cross to plant a diving header past Belford.

And, with six minutes left, Mullin turned provider again, sweeping the ball along the six-yard box for Rafaelle De Vita to fire home from a tight angle.
