THE grass is freshly cut, the lines are painted and the excitement of a new season is just around the corner.

Stranraer take to the field to kick off another pre-season in less than 24 hours' time when they welcome Larne.

New faces - and some familiar faces - will be in Stevie Farrell's starting line-up.

He said: "It is great to be back for pre-season.

"You've had your break and enjoyed it, but after about two weeks that's enough and you're looking forward to the new season.

"Pre-season has started and then there are the games.

"Everyone is looking forward to the game tomorrow."

Currently, the Blues have 14 players signed for next season with new additions Tom Lang, Jamie Hamill, Grant Anderson, Paul Woods and Ryan Wallace getting their first taste of Stair Park, while Morgyn Neill returns to familiar surroundings.

Farrell is still looking to add to his squad, with a trialist from England expected to make the journey to the Rhins in a bid to win a deal, while Liam Dick and Calvin Kemp are expected to be involved as well.

Liam Dick

The manager said: "There's no change with Liam.

"He's part of the squad but time is pressing on and we need to get an answer.

"It's something I'm working hard on and if it's not going to be him, we need to look somewhere else.

"I'm still confident he will be here next season."

Meanwhile, Kemp, who had a loan spell at Kilwinning Rangers last season, will also be involved while a former Blues loanee is also expected to feature at some point against the visitors from the other side of the Irish Sea.

Farrell added: "I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

"You always love the first match day.

"It is not competitive but we're looking forward to getting back on the pitch.

"The new faces can get to know the players travelling down together before the game."

Notable previous meeting

Read the Galloway Gazette's match report from Stranraer's 2-0 home friendly win over Larne in July 2005. The result kicked off a season which ultimately ended in the Blues' relegation from the old First Division.
