released players list

AT LEAST six players will move on from Stair Park following contract talks for the 2019/20 season.

After meeting with the manager on Tuesday 7 May, Lyle Avci, Andy McDonald, David Brownlie, Chris McGowan, Mark Lamont and Conor O'Keefe have been released.

Local goalkeeper Avci made 5 appearances for his hometown club with 2 of those coming from the bench, and notably kept a clean sheet in a vital draw with eventual champions Arbroath.

Andy McDonald recorded 33 appearances after joining from St Mirren last summer, with the defender's fantastic free kick against Montrose making our Goal of the Season shortlist.

Another regular in the Blues backline, David Brownlie netted twice in his 32 appearances for the club following his move from Airdrie.

Chris McGowan made his debut against East Fife at the end of the 2016/17 season and became a first team regular in 2018, but an unfortunate injury meant he didn't play a single game in 2019.

A graduate of Stranraer under 20s, the left back kicked off our season with a header against Queen of the South and chipped in with a fine free kick against East Fife back in December.

Mark Lamont left it late to get off the mark for Stranraer, but did so in style with a massively important goal against Brechin which helped keep us in League 1. The experienced winger is expected to call time on his football career as he moves into a new line of work.

Finally, Conor O'Keefe joined us from St Mirren in January, but was restricted to mostly substitute appearances in a short spell hampered by injury.

The remaining players have been offered new terms.

They are: Jamie Hamill, Connor McManus, Kyle Turner, Cameron Elliott, Grant Anderson, David Smith, Max Currie and Adam Cummins.

Midfielder Ian Smith, who saw his season cut short by injury, has been invited back for pre-season training.

In addition to those out of contract, loanees Innes Cameron, Joao Victoria, PJ Crossan and Ali McCann have returned to Kilmarnock, Airdrieonians, Celtic and St Johnstone respectively.

Another scorer in that vital win over Brechin, midfielder McCann came on leaps and bounds in his loan spell at Stair Park and was deservedly rewarded with a new contract at St Johnstone.

Celtic forward PJ Crossan netted against Dumbarton and Stenhousemuir in the league and lashed home a consolation goal against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup, having previously been on loan at Alloa Athletic.

Joao Victoria scored on his debut in Feburary and earned our Goal of the Season with a stunning strike against Raith Rovers, before firing us to safety with two vital goals in the run-in.

Lastly, young striker Innes Cameron was the Blues' top scorer, netting 10 goals across 30 appearances in a fantastic breakthrough season.

All of the departing players have contributed to our League 1 survival and leave with our very best wishes for the future.

We hope to have further squad news in the coming days.
