ALL at Stair Park were saddened to hear of the passing of former player Jimmy Shanks earlier this week.
Jimmy was a weel-kent face around Stranraer having played for the Blues, served as a committee member, taught Mathematics at Stranraer Academy and managed various school year groups' football teams.
A native of Airdrie, Jimmy clocked up 102 appearances across 4 seasons for Stranraer, getting on the score sheet four times in an era when defenders rarely ventured over the half way line.
Jimmy played in the first Stranraer team to take a top flight scalp, when on 11 January 1964 a large home crowd saw Davie Logan and Johnny Hanlon’s goals eliminate Third Lanark in the first round of the Scottish Cup.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
