Powerful striker Isaac Layne has signed for Stranraer following a successful trial spell.

Still just 23, Layne is entering his fifth season in Scottish football, having arrived at Alloa Athletic in January 2015 following spells at Southend United and Hayes & Yeading.

A product of the youth system at English Championship side Brentford, Layne has significant physical attributes which make him a handful for any defence.

He joins us after a year in the Scottish Championship with Brechin City, and despite scoring two goals as a trialist in Saturday's friendly win over Cumbernauld Colts, he has been on the Blues' radar for some time.

Director of Football Stuart Millar spoke to the club website this afternoon to explain how the deal came about.

He said: "In terms of strikers, Isaac was our first choice target at the end of the season.

"However, he had other options, including interest from a few teams down south.

"We are delighted he has chosen to sign for Stranraer, and I would like to thank the committee for their support."

Layne goes straight into the squad for Tuesday night's friendly at home to Ayr United, which kicks off at 7.30pm.
